SPORTSMEN OR WOMEN TO THE LAST

I love words. I love how you can be a tennis player or a golfer but not a golf player or tenniser. I could be a swimmer or cyclist for fun without being professional, but the minute I say I am a footballer everyone wants to know who I play for. Once you are a jockey you are a real pro, but a runner can pound his streets for little gain. Alternatively, maybe, a poloer on horseback? Or an athleticser?

I can be a badminton player, hockey player or rugby player, but never a badmintoner, hockier or rugbyer whereas it would be weird to be a diving player or a darter, let alone a chesser!

At the end of the day. I guess I can still be a sports player but not a sporter, and still a devoted supporter.
